About this Model
It is possible to make either a 12-unit version or a 30-unit version of the Four Way Winding model. The main photo here shows the 30-unit version. This is a face-and-base kusudama. Thirty face pieces are folded (9 steps) and thirty base pieces are folded (7 steps); then the faces are inserted into the bases and some additional folds are applied to create the finished unit (9 steps). The assembly diagrams shows only 3 steps: they show how to join three units, then jump directly to the finished 30-unit model. This assumes an understanding of how to keep adding more units after the first three. Such an understanding can be gained from the more detailed assembly diagrams for other models shown earlier in the book -- for example, on page 20.

This kusudama is a very elegant hanging ornament, especially when it is enhanced by the addition of beading and either a tassel or a beaded tail.
