About this Model
It is possible to make a 6-unit version, a 12-unit version, or a 30-unit version of this Peony model. The main photo shown here is of the 30-unit version. This is a face-and-base kusudama. Thirty base pieces are folded from rectangular sheets (7 steps) and thirty face pieces are folded from square sheets (9 steps); then the faces are inserted in the bases and some additional folds are applied to create the finished units (11 steps). The assembly diagrams show only 3 steps: they show how to join three units together and then skip directly to the finished model. This assumes an understanding of how to keep adding more units beyond the first three. Such an understanding can be obtained by looking at the more detailed assembly diagrams provided for other models earlier in the book -- for example, on page 20.

This is an extraordinarily beautiful kusudama, especially when it is enhanced by the additional of beading and either a tassel or a beaded tail.
